Privacy Policy: How Spice Insider Handles Your Information
The short version: we collect as little as possible, we never sell your data, and we’re upfront about how the site works. The longer version is below — written in plain English, not legal filler.
Summary: The Short Version
We believe privacy policies should be readable by actual humans. Here’s what matters most, upfront:
That’s the gist. If you want the full detail — what those server logs contain, how affiliate links work, what third parties might do — the rest of this page explains it thoroughly.
What Information We Collect
Spice Insider is designed to be read, not to collect data. We don’t have user accounts, membership logins, comment sections, or newsletter signup forms that gather personal information. Here’s the limited data that passes through our systems:
Server Log Data
Like virtually every website, our hosting infrastructure automatically logs certain technical information when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser type, referring page, pages visited on our site, and the date and time of your visit. This is standard web server operation, not something we’ve chosen to enable — it happens by default, and we don’t use it to identify individual visitors. We may review aggregated server logs occasionally to understand which guides are most helpful or to diagnose technical issues, but we don’t cross-reference this data with anything else or store it indefinitely.
Contact Form Submissions
When you use our contact form or email us directly, we receive whatever information you choose to share — typically your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry. We don’t add your email to a marketing list (we don’t have one), we don’t share it with anyone, and we don’t use it for any purpose beyond replying to you. Once a conversation concludes, emails are archived in our inbox; we don’t transfer them to any external database or customer relationship system because we don’t operate one.
How We Use Your Information
Given how little we collect, the answer here is narrow:
- Server logs help us understand broad traffic patterns (which guides are popular, whether the site is experiencing technical problems) and protect against abuse or security threats. We don’t use them for advertising, profiling, or any individualized tracking.
- Contact form and email correspondence is used exclusively to respond to your message. We don’t mine it for insights, add you to any list, or share it with third parties.
- We do not use any collected information for automated decision-making, profiling, or any form of algorithmic processing that affects individual readers.
Cookies & Tracking
Spice Insider itself does not set tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies. We don’t run a cookie consent banner because, as far as our own code is concerned, there’s nothing to consent to — we simply don’t place cookies on your device.
However, our site includes embedded content and links to third-party services, and those services may set their own cookies. Specifically:
- Amazon affiliate links: When you click a product link that leads to Amazon, Amazon may place cookies on your device to track that our site referred you. This is how affiliate commissions work — if you buy something within a certain window after clicking our link, Amazon knows to credit us. These cookies are set by Amazon, not by us, and are governed by Amazon’s privacy policy.
- Embedded images: Some product images on our site are hosted by Amazon or other third-party servers. Loading those images may transmit your IP address and browser information to those servers, similar to how embedding any externally hosted image works anywhere on the web.
We don’t use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking or analytics services. If that changes in the future, we’ll update this policy and explain what changed and why.
Affiliate Links & Commissions
Spice Insider participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and potentially other affiliate programs. This means that some of the product links on our site are affiliate links — if you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.
Our Commitment to Honest Recommendations
Affiliate commissions do not influence which products we recommend, how we rank them, or what we say about them. Our top overall pick in our best spice grinder guide earned that position through testing and comparison, not because of any business arrangement. We don’t accept payment from brands for placement, we don’t adjust our picks based on commission rates, and we don’t let manufacturers review our content before publication.
If you’d rather not use our affiliate links, you can navigate directly to the product on Amazon or another retailer and make your purchase there. Our guides are designed to be useful whether or not we earn anything from your purchase. The information — the comparisons, the pros and cons, the troubleshooting advice — is freely available regardless.
We disclose the presence of affiliate links on pages where they appear, both through this privacy policy and through contextual disclosure where appropriate. If you have questions about how a specific link works, you’re welcome to contact us.
Third-Party Services
We keep third-party involvement to a minimum, but a few external services are necessarily part of how the site operates:
- Web hosting provider: Our site is hosted by a third-party hosting service that maintains server logs as described above. These logs are a standard part of web hosting and are subject to the hosting provider’s own privacy and security practices.
- Amazon and other retailers: As described in the cookies and affiliate sections, clicking product links takes you to third-party retailer sites that operate under their own privacy policies. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the privacy practices of those sites once you leave ours.
- Email provider: If you contact us by email, our email service is provided by a third-party email host. Your message and any associated metadata are stored on their servers in accordance with their privacy and security policies.
We do not embed social media widgets, third-party commenting systems, or any other external services that would introduce additional data collection beyond what’s described here.
Your Rights & Choices
Because we collect so little personal information, the practical scope of data rights is limited — but they still apply. Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:
- Right to know: You can ask us what personal information we hold about you. Given that the only personal information we’re likely to have is your email address and any message history from a prior contact form submission, the answer will typically be limited to that correspondence.
- Right to delete: You can request that we delete personal information we hold about you. For email correspondence, this means deleting the email thread from our inbox. Note that we can’t delete server logs maintained by our hosting provider, as those are outside our direct control and are typically aggregated and rotated automatically.
- Right to correct: If information we hold about you is inaccurate, you can ask us to correct it.
- Right to opt out of sale: We don’t sell personal information, so there’s nothing to opt out of. This policy would be a lot shorter if we did.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@spiceinsider.com with the subject line “Privacy Request” and describe what you’re requesting. We’ll respond within a reasonable timeframe, typically within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests, particularly if you’re asking about information we can’t easily tie to an email address on file.
Children’s Privacy
Spice Insider is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Our content is written for adults making purchasing decisions about kitchen equipment, and we don’t design any part of the site experience to appeal to or gather data from minors. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through the contact form or email, please let us know and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy — for example, if we add a newsletter signup, begin using analytics, or change how affiliate links work — we’ll update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and note the changes clearly. For significant changes that affect how we handle information you’ve already shared with us, we’ll make a reasonable effort to notify you directly if we have contact information on file.
Minor updates — fixing typos, clarifying existing language, updating third-party service names — will be made without specific announcement and reflected in the “Last Updated” date.
